Pocky & Pepero - April 17 2014

Every Thursday (EST) during Asian Insanity, I bring you the lastest music and news from Japan and Korea. The topics of discussion this week were new anime releases of Akuma no Riddle, Black Bullet, Blade & Soul, and Captain Earth.

Akuma no Riddle

Akuma no Riddle

Having watched the first 3 episodes of this new anime, I must admit my immediate thought was... cosplay. I have a thing for going for the school girl look and the added edition of a weapon just makes it that much more appealing. Dont get me started on the ass-kicker boots. *cough* Anyway, back to the anime.

Set at Myōjō Academy, "Class Black," 10th Grade is composed of 12 assassins disguised as students and one target: Haru Ichinose. Fully aware of being the prey, Ichinose vows to survive assassination attempts and graduate from the school alive. One of the assassins, Tokaku Azuma, has started building up feelings for Ichinose and switched side to become her protector. Together they have to face the onslaught from their classmates of 11 assassins.

Black Bullet

I havent check out this one yet, but I fully intend to. Set in the year 2021, mankind was defeated by Gastrea, a parasitical virus, and is forced to live within a wall made of Varanium Monoliths, a metal that is able to subdue Gastrea. Soon, the "Cursed Children", children born with the Gastrea virus who are able to control it—which gives them superhuman abilities—were discovered. Due to the Gastrea virus' intervention, the Cursed Children could only be female.

Civil Securities are formed to specialize in fighting against Gastrea, operating with the pair of an Initiator, who are cursed children, and a Promoter, serving to lead the cursed children. Ten years after the war, Rentarō Satomi, a high school student who is also a Promoter in his childhood friend Kisara Tendō's Tendō Civil Security, along with his Initator Enju Aihara, receives a secret mission to prevent the Tokyo Area's destruction. As confusing as that sounds... still something I want to check out. Weird virus...Fighting back... Lets do this!

Blade & Soul

Based off a So. Korean MMO, Blade and Soul is yet another anime I have yet to sink my teeth into. The summary of the anime is simply put as:

Alka is an assassin for the Clan of the Sword. She's on a journey to find the woman Jin Valel, who killed her master Hon. Jin is demon-like woman who controls the Energy of Chaos and kills without feeling - not unlike how Alka has learned to kill in her work as an assassin. On her journey, Alka encounters three strange women, each great warriors in their own right, and grapples with her slain master's wish that she leave the life of an assassin behind. I think I have a thing for assassins...

Captain Earth

An anime for the mech fans, but it should be noted that when searching for this in MIGHTY Google search... Captain Planet appears. *giggle*

After seeing a strange full-circle rainbow appeared near Tanegashima Space Center on TV news program with strange deja-vu feelings, high school sophomore Daichi Manatsu traveled to Tanegashima (where his father serving as the commander of the Space Center) on the first day of his summer vacation. There he met a mysterious girl Hana Mutou, a genius hacker Akari Yomatsuri, a quiet boy Teppei Arashi (but with fiery side), and — to his biggest surprise — a giant robot called "Earth Engine," designed to repel invading KILL-T-GANG, a mysterious mechanical life form from Uranus. Meanwhile, the invasion from KILL-T-GANG is already underway, giving Daichi and his team of teenagers no choice but to pilot Earth Engine to defend his home planet. GO GO CAPTAIN EARTH!
