The purchase also does not affect any previously announced games and plans from id which are due to be released through other publishers, including the Activision-Blizzard backed Wolfenstein and the EA backed Rage, but does give ZeniMax that capability going forward. ZeniMax CEO Robert Altman said, "Our role will be to provide publisher support through Bethesda Softworks and give id Software the resources it needs to grow and expand."
John Carmack, id Software's Technical Director, said that this lets them "grow and extend all of our franchises under one roof, leveraging our capabilities across multiple teams while enabling forward looking research to be done in the service of all of them. We will be bigger and stronger, as we recruit the best talent to help us build the landmark games of the future. As trite as it may be for me to say that I am extremely pleased and excited about this deal, I am."
This I suppose puts another nail in the coffin of the independent PC developer, and puts another point on the board for the big corporate gaming machine. It's kinda sad to see gaming go this way, but everybody's got to eat I suppose.
A new Max Payne game is on the way and there are to be "drastic changes in setting and character design," and that's exactly how Rockstar Games' have put it. So, it must be true!
There have been a few screenshots released that show a now muscular, bald yet bearded Max payne in a Die Hard vest and wielding 2 pistols, a bit like in Die Hard.
With a beard.
The game isn't to be set in New York like the previous games but looks rather nice from the 6 screenshots.
Check them out in all their muscular, bearded sexiness after the break.

Get the tissues and comfort food ready Final Fantasy fans, as Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII recently been announced as the fastest selling PSX title on PlayStation Network. It's been downloaded over 100,000 times on PSN for PlayStation 3 and PSP since it's release on June 2nd. The reason for those tissues? Well it means interfering, getting in the way character Aeries has died another 100,000 times. Sorry, I mean the sad, heart wrenching death of Aeris has happened 100,000 (soon to be 100,001 as I downloaded it the other day) times.
Final Fantasy VII was originally released way back in 1997 on the original Playstation console, was loved the world over and sold in it's millions even causing a shortage of Playstation consoles here in the UK.
But still, in 2 short weeks 100,000 downloads is nothing to be sniffed at, and if you haven't played it yet and own a PSP or PS3 it's come at the right time before the release of FFXIII next year.

It's Pride month in the USA this month and just like here in good old Blighty there will be the usual parades, marches and celebrations of Gay culture all over the country.
The festivities aren't exclusive to the real world, they're also happening in our favourite MMO's too.
World of Warfcraft's Proudmoore Server recently hosted what was said to be the biggest Pride Celebration yet with events such as a March to Ratchet, Azeroth's Next Top Model Competition, Nude Duelling and even a user created Float Competition.
It was the 5th event organised by guilds The Spreading Taint and The Stonewall Family . The event was attended by many guilds and people including Go Girl!, Dykes on Bikes, Proposition Taint, The Real Houseboys of Silvermoon City, and many many more.
The celebration was said to be the biggest yet, and there are obvious hopes to make it bigger next year. Also suggested were similar events on City of Heroes/Villains.
See the festivities for yourself here.

The latest handheld installment of the GTA series and Nintendo DS exclusive Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be a DS exclusive no more. It'll be coming to the PSP and PSP Go in Q3 this year and is going to be sold both in UMD format from retailers and by download via the Playstation Network in both European and North American territories.
I can only assume this is down to poor sales (around 89,000) despite receiving good reviews from pretty much accross the board.
The new PSP version will be built with the console in mind and will feature not only upscaled and improved graphics, but also new animation, lighting effects and also some new story missions.
