With all the new updates and rumors and mythical wishings flying around about AoC, it's no wonder why the game nearly reeks of EPIC FAILURE! But, there IS a glimmer of HOPE! Will it redeem itself before gamers are vexed entirely, leaving only the die-hard plodding on? Read on to find out more!
Here is an excerpt from their most recent Newsletter:
"The much anticipated Update 1.4 is now live on the Age of Conan servers. With two new dungeons opening up for high-level players, your Hyborian adventures have now been extended with many more hours! We have even added a mid-level dungeon called The Cradle of Decay, and we have opened up a whole new wing in Black Ring Citadel that is sure to provide more hours of raid gameplay. If player vs. player gameplay is your thing, you might be interested to hear that we have now introduced new resources required to build battlekeeps - resources that can only be gathered in the Border Kingdom areas and as such must be mercilessly fought over to be acquired! So dust off your Drinking Cape and step into Hyboria once more, as the Age of Conan continues to unfold. "
Yeah, great. They added MORE stuff that's glitchy! Or did they? With the AoC staff pioneering the DirectX 10 codex and seeking to resolve the many issues that have arisen since releasing the DX10 patches you would think they had little time to be able to fix any of the in game stuff. For example: Getting RANDOMLY STUCK for no apparent reason, sinking through the floor, NPC's overlapping one another, tigers sticking through cages instead of being IN them. Well, you get the point!
Yet as I said, there is HOPE! They have indeed released fixes for many of these problems! No more falling through the world map, at least not as much anyway! So they CAN pay more attention to actual game mechanics instead of the DirectX 10 codex. Amazing!
Speaking of DirectX 10, personally I wouldn't update to DirectX 10 JUST yet! It seems there are some issues with a LOT of video cards that SAY they can support DirectX 10, yet are actually completely unable to support it! Or perhaps there is a bug in the code. Either way, many who have upgraded to DirectX 10 for AoC have found themselves being stuck in windowed mode and unable to return to full screen. The only known way of resolving this is to wipe AoC completely and reinstall. As anyone who's played AoC knows, the install process can take HOURS to finish.
So I would stick with the DX 9 code until more of the wrinkles are ironed out. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Otherwise enjoy the MMO that now sports fewer bugs and glitches. If you ask me it seems there is a light on the horizon for AoC. Go bask in the warmth!
