Battlefield 3 Beta Arrives, PC Specs Too

Battlefield 3, the new EA/Dice FPS that looks set to set the world alight in many ways goes into a special beta today for people who perordered the game and will be followed by a full beta on Thusday. For more about what's happening then click below and get ready to fight soldier.

Battlefield 3 is due to go head to head this coming October with main rival Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 and has gone into a special 2 day beta for those who preordered the game before July 26th or bought the Tier 1 version of Medal of Honor.

The beta will run until October 10th on PC, XBOX 30 and PS3 and will showcase all the fighting action you could ever hope for. The main meat of the beta will be showing off the Metro map, set in and around the Stock Exchange in Paris and partly underground in the Parisian Metro system. The game mode will be Rush, which sees a team based game protecting bases and fighting for power.

I was lucky enough to play this map and mode at Gamefest (PS3 version) and it was a sight to behold, beautiful graphics that really were beyond anything I imagined the game to be, somehow even rivalling PC graphics. There were sumptous audio, solid controls and a real return to form for the Battlefield franchise after what I felt were rather lacklustre Bad Company and 1943 outings. And of course there's that destructable, wonderfully lit Frostbite 2 engine that felt like it promised far too much, was far too ambitious yet managed to outdo itself when met in person.

As I wrote earlier, the beta is available now for preorder customers and Teir 1 owners of Medal of Honor, but goes into full beta as of Thursday. It will be available on PC via Origin (which will be required for both the beta and the full game) PS3 via PSN and XBOX 360 via XBOX Live.

Also available during the beta will be Battlelog, this will allow you to keep track of and compare ingame stats via your chosen console/PC and even mobile devices. Accumalated stats from the beta will not carry over to the full release, so that way nobody will have a head start at launch, but any name you chose for yoursel will be kept so at least you get to keep that.

The beta will be exclusively available in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand and will run until October 10th with release dates to follow a couple of weeks later. These dates will be October 25th in North America and October 28th in Europe and the UK, a full 2 weeks before rival Modern Warfare 3 is released.

In other news the PC version of Battlefield 3 has been the subject of some pretty outrageous specifications rumors due to the Frostbite 2 engine including GeForce 580's in SLI for reccomended settings but the specs were announced last week just after GameFest.
