There was sad news today in the MMO world and it gives us all at SI Radio a heavy heart to announce the closure of Paragon Studios and of course their flagship MMO, City of Heroes.
The game has been a favourite amongst superhero and MMO fanatics since it's release in 2004, inspiring many MMOs and setting a benchmark for the genre as we know it today. Also, the game has been a firm favourite amongst SI Radio listeners and DJs and was even the focus of our weekly show "Unmasked" which was hosted by DJs Jules, Rick James, Desmodos and even myself a couple of times.
In recent years the game went free to play under the guise of City of Heroes Freedom and has also spawned expansion packs City of Villains and Going Rogue. No date has been announced for the final day of the game other than "before the end of this year" and more details will be released over the next few weeks.
An official statement from Community Manager, Andy Belford has been released on the official City of Heroes website that can be read here.
