EA Lays Off Montreal Staffers

Reports have come in that there have been layoffs made by EA, coming on the tail of their CEO John Riccitiello, who stepped down on March 30.

The Montreal studio that was primarily focused on mobile games experienced layoffs on Friday. EA declined to offer an official number of employees affected. Joystiq reported that between 60 and 70 permanent employees, along with more than 100 contractors, allegedly QA testers, were let go. The head count in that office is approximately 300 people, so this is more than half of the Montreal office.

EA said that the move was made in order to "streamline their operations" to "ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world," in a statement to PCMag.

This round of layoffs comes two months after a previous round in their Los Angeles and Montreal offices, which was said to be part of their console transition plan ahead of the release of Sony's PlayStation 4.
