Two producers letters were released today, and they both were going guns blazing at bringing more exciting and varied content into the EvE universe in 2013.
The first letter from CCP Unifex, aka Executive Producer Jon Lander, talks about how he wishes CCP had stayed going forward with expansions like Apocrypha, which had a little bit of everything included, rather than laser focusing on mechanics or technology upgrades. He wants to go for "compelling themes which capture the imagination and give all of us something to strive for." This means instead of the traditional Summer release being Exploration, and Winter being New Ships or Balancing, then PVE, then POS fixes, they all get done, simultaneously, with a theme. Everything will be on the table while they continue to make plans.
CCP Seagull, aka Senior Producer Andie Nordgren, then posted about what the plan was going forward, how exactly they were going to tackle these themed releases. She talks about an example of how certain players do a lot of background work to make things flow smoothly for folks who start a ruckus out in the universe, and bringing tools to make their lives easier. She also says that they want to make the game more accessible, which is understandable given Eve's reputation as being spreadsheets in space.
There is a point release currently planned for EvE to be released on February 12th with tweaks to Retribution features, war declarations and ship balancing. More details will come a little later in the month. After that they will be moving into pre-production for the summer expansion for EvE, establishing what their theme will be and what changes will come as a result.
