Last night saw a very special press event at a Tokyo science museum which showcased and previewed the hotly anticipated Square Enix title Final Fantasy XIII. A release date of December 17th was confirmed for Japan with a “spring” release announced for the rest of the world.
This date comes as no huge shock to those watching the game as the December 17th date was leaked on the Square Youtube site recently and now the date has been confirmed at least some of those Final Fantasy fanboys can sleep soundly knowing that their game is soon to be arriving.
On the subject of European and American releases Square Enix Boss Yoichi Wada had this to say. "In the past, it's taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring". This suggests that this time around this side of the pond won't be third in the queue for the game's release and that we may get it the same time it hits American stores.
The game will retail in Japan at a rather steep ¥9240 with tax which works out to be around $100US. Other than the “spring” date, us Westerners still have no idea when we'll be getting our sticky little fingers on the game, nor how much it will cost us.
