Flash Game Friday - Flying Cookie Quest

Welcome to Flash Game Friday, today we will be discussing a game you will either love or hate and that's Flying Cookie Quest. No, not the DJ you all know and love. You play as a panda with a jetpack, how can you go wrong there?

More after the jump

So today we're taking a look at Flying Cookie Quest which is a game you really have to be in for the long haul. You will either absolutely love or hate this game. I've invested a good 4 hours of my life into this game to play it in its entirety which is a LONG time to play a flash game. I started off with nothing but disappointment and contempt for this game. It was almost as if this game was designed for me to hate it. The funny part about it is that as I continued to play it, it grew on
me quickly.

The game is by an independent internet developer and comes with no achievements on Kongregate's website. It is free to add to any website you would like because the embedding code is right out in the open for you to grab and add as a free edition to any gaming related site you want to. Pretty awesome right? Right.

Now, let's get into the beef of the game's err...panda...beef...okay scratch that this sounds like we're poachers. The game starts with a Panda in a cannon. I know this sounds incredibly violent but don't get your hopes up so much because it's too kawaii and cute to be like that. The basics of this game involve simply a mouse so those of you who feel you are not a multitasking master will feel right at home. You launch the panda with the click of a mouse based on the level of power. After that, one would assume, there is not much to the game. It's all just sit and wait to watch him bounce and land right?

WRONG.

Not only do you have a boss to deal with as you travel throughout 5 distance levels, which are not revealed to you until you reach them.

You also get boosts that involve a bunch of minigames that have different instructions.

The one show above is a circle click game in which you click the mouse button when the circle travels into the faded area. The circle gets faster as the boosts continue. It's like someone made mario party have a baby with toss the turtle. The game instills a combination of eight different boosts which can be accessed through a spinwheel in the upgrades screen, the price varies depending on how many times you have spun the wheel. Sometimes you have to hold the mouse, sometimes click furiously. For a small game to involve this many different controls is pretty awesome especially coming from a single independent developer.

LET'S TALK ABOUT UPGRADES! This game is a lot...I want to say harder but that isn't the right word. The game requires you to really put in time and effort to get it's upgrades. The prices are ridiculous at first but as you continue forward you will see the amount of money you gain in "cookies" grow quickly. You usually unlock one or two advancements per launch, or that was at least my experience. This may also allow you the choice for a spin at the bonus helper wheel which we discussed above. You have 8 different upgrades to choose from which vary from bounce height to cannon power. They really covered everything that could be upgraded in this game and I have nothing but respect for that.

As you move forward though the game you will find yourself unlocking a crap ton of achievements for distance, speed, height, pounding creatures, everything. Some are ridiculously easy and some...not so much. If you play the game through all the way the chances are good you will se most, if not all, of them.

Oh, you beat the game?

Congrats....buuuuut you're not done by a long shot. You still have the list of 5 different bonus games including the unlimited mode and trust me, it's going to take some serious MAD SKILLZ to beat my high score of 61,655 in distance. Go ahead, try it....you know you want to.

This is a game that you will either love or hate. I can't justify it with a rating because of that. I can however say that you should at least give it an hour of your time, because what else will you do at work come monday? Work? PFFFFTT. Give it a try and if anything, try not to love the song they play at the opening of the game because it's fantasticly addictive.
