Green Heart Games is an indy games development studio that has just released their first game called "Game Dev Tycoon". As you have probably guessed, the game is a game-dev simulator. What is peculiar about this game though, is that the developers did not wait for the pirates to crack their game and distribute it on the usual channels. Instead, they released their own "cracked" version of the game and "leaked" it on torrent sites.
And then the plot thickens...
The "cracked" version is fully functional except at some point, progressing through the game becomes increasingly difficult as the simulated company goes bankrupt due to its games being pirated.
Game Dev Tycoon's developers, then sat on the forums and watched as players who had downloaded the "pirated" version, where complaining about piracy ruining their in-game company (talk about justice).
While the game's price is fairly small (about 8 bucks), the amount of people who got the pirated version compared to the legitimate users is stellar in comparison. However, we here at Split Infinity Radio believe that this stunt Green Heart Games pulled, is going to garner a lot of attention to their game and their cause, and in turn their much desired profit.
Check their blog entry about it. It's totally worth it.
