Gears of War 3 had two strong multiplayer modes which were about co-op and not competitive, Hordes and Beasts. Both of these modes were well done, and on the harder difficulties, can be a real test of your co-op skills.
Judgement, Epic Games newest edition into the franchise merges these two modes into one Juggernaut laden battle between the Beasts and Hordes as both a Co-op (work together with your team) and Competitive (destroy/defend the Generator)
On the COG side you have the option of being Agustus "The Coal Train" Cole who is the soldier in this mode. He comes stock with a Booshka, a three round grenade launcher and a lancer. His ability is to supply the team with ammo via a fairly quick re-spawning ammo box. Next option is Sophia Hendricks, the Medic, who wields a Lancer and Snub Pistol. Medics can heal and revive themselves and allies by deploying a stim-gas grenade. Looking for a high vantage point is Garron Paduk, the Marksman, who is actually a captured member of the UIR, or Union of Independent Republics, who the COG actually fought in the Pendulum Wars. As the Marksman he is equipped with the Markza a new semi-auto sniper rifle and snub pistol. His ability, besides climbing to higher vantage points, is to throw a Beacon Grenade which gives a large radius "vision" to allies, allowing them to see opponents through walls and behind barriers. Lastly, is the Engineer - Baird. He is wields a Gnasher and Blowtorch. His abilities actually number the most out of the group, with his 'Torch, he can repair structures (like barriers) and set up a Tier 3 Turret. This team is tasked with defending emergence hole covers and by proxy the generator as a last stand.
On the flipside, the Locust are all about destroying the covers and generator. Do do this, veterans of Beasts in Gears of War 3 will feel right at home. Locust have the following options to bring down the COG
- Ticker - Burst run ability, explode to do significant damage
- Wretch - Jump over barriers, scream to stun opponents, climb to higher elevated positions
- Grenadier - Two primary weapons, the Lancer/Gnasher, along with grenade
- Kantus - Classic Hammerburst, which is a six shot burst weapon. Heals team and heal can bounce between allies if they are close enough. Visual "connection" showing who is being healed
- Mauler - Heavy melee and shield to protect itself. It is also able to spin said shield to deflect bullets back at attackers and spinning shield can do damage in melee range
- Serapede - Rear up ability for ranged spit attack, health is shown as segment pieces on screen
- Rager - Ranged expert with a short temper, discards its breechshot for a powerful melee attack when enraged. The Breechshot is a heavy damge bolt action sniper rifle with no scope
- Corpser - heavy melee (good at wreeckin fortifications) burrons and moves underground
