A long long time ago, on a PC far far away, gaming was a different thing altogether, 3D was virtually unheard of and games ran in creaky old DOS.
Back then point and click adventures were all the rage and LucasArts were the main producer of this genre. Many famous and influential games came out of this genre, none more famous than Monkey Island. People over a certain age will have very fond memories of monkeys, pirates and also a battle system that was controlled by insults and childish taunts. It was just sheer genius.
Now, the reason I tell you this is that there are rumours stating Monkey Island may well be coming to Xbox 360 which will give gamers over a certain age that warm tingly feeling their mothers warned them about and also entertain newer gamers who have never seen a game like this before.
Rumours are abound that “The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition” is due out on Xbox 360 and will be published Activision Blizzard Deutschland GmbH, which the European publishing arm for LucasArts.
The big rumour is that the game is planned for unveiling at E3 2009 at the beginning of June.
It's not clear yet whether this a completely overhauled HD remake, or just the original title made for 360, if it's a full release, an XBLA release or even if it really exists yet. But it's still a pretty awesome concept for retro fans young and old.
If you have no idea what Monkey Island is you seriously are missing out on a gem from gaming past, and if this is all a hoax could leave many gamers disappointed.
