Modern Warfare 3 – First Look and Round-up (pt. 1)

Modern Warfare 3

Let's just get this out of the way at the beginning, there is no Tactical Nuke.

This sentence alone makes Modern Warfare 3 the game its predecessors wishes it was. The Tactical Nuke spawned countless complaint threads and a fair share of rage quits since it was introduced. So we, the masses, now have something to cheer for: Modern Warfare, No Nuke Edition!

With that in mind, let's get an overview of what the new and exciting changes are going to be in Modern Warfare 3 (MW3 for short).

Let's talk about something that we all have been itching to see, the kill streaks! This time around, kill streaks have been broken down into three different categories called Strike Packages. This will help you branch off into the different styles of game play besides the traditional run and run “attack” class.

Your first Strike Package is called ‘Assault’ and it’s for that gritty gamer as it is packed with all of your attack-oriented kill streaks. UAV's, care packages, precision air strike and sentry guns are reprising their role in the latest MW game as well as an old favorite (of mine at least) the predator missile.
Other entries added to the Assault package include the Attack Helicopter and new items like the Strafe Run, Assault Drone, and the Juggernaut. Little Bird Guard is one I am personally looking forward to playing as it seems to shoot down missiles and helps keep your birds in the air. This will go great with my predators, eh?

The second Strike Package is meant for player support and is rightfully called “Support”. Again, the UAV makes an appearance along with its cousin Counter-UAV and the EMP from MW2. Remote turrets, escort airdrops, and stealth bombers will also be at your disposal.
New options like the Airdrop Trap, which seems to drop a bomb version of a care package, could make for some great mid-match entertainment. The best part of this Strike Package though is the fact that death will not stop the streak. That alone makes this package worth its weight.

Lastly, there is the “Specialist” Strike Package. This one seems to be unique in the fact that you get every perk at Pro status. Talk about crazy!
I am looking forward to seeing stuff like Blast Shield Pro, as I frequently run with a Riot Shield, or having Quick Draw and Steady Aim Pro both active at once. It looks like there can be some incredible combinations to be had. I think my personal favorites would be (if I got all three going at once) sleight of hand, quick draw, and marksman pro while using some form of submachine gun or shotgun in a smaller map. They'd REALLY get you whipping the guns out when you need them.

Well, that's it for part 1. Part 2 will be out soon where we will discuss the weapons in-game, my obsession with riot shields, and some other tasty treats. For those of you looking to see the full listing of each strike package can check it out here via Destructoid.com
