NCSoft Gives Dungeon Runners the Heave-Ho
Given the closing down of Tabula Rasa at the end of February and Auto Assault before that in August 2007, it should come as little surprise to people that NCSoft is shutting down this MMO I suppose.  Why little surprise?  Dungeon Runners got the same treatment most MMOs do when they're about to be shut down, the staff was trimmed down to a handful of developers.  (See: The Matrix Online.)

The game has quite the sense of humor, which makes it a shame to see it go, even the letter explaining the shut down is chock full of humor outlining the problem.   DR's Producer and Lead Programmer Stephen Nichols delivers the news in a "crap sandwich" telling the players that they rock face, then saying the game isn't turning a profit, and because of that, they're down to a three man team, which is pretty much impossible for any studio to use in maintaining a game.

Anybody subscribed to the game will get the now familiar NCSoft send off package of a free copy of City of Heroes Architect Edition and Guild Wars Chapter 1: Prophecies.

They'll be ending with a bang by having mythic loot drop more frequently, reducing costs of king's coin vendors, quintupling the rate of xp gain, and nuking townston that will blow up on New Years.  No, seriously.  If you haven't played and want something to do for free for a few months, jump in, the water's murky and full of snark.

However, I don't think this is going to do anything good for NCSoft's image of being a company that shuts down MMOs, if current 'net commentary is any measure.
