Early today down in the hidden caves of the Tokyo Game Show 2009 lair a few developers got together to discuss the possible future of Project Natal and how they felt about it as a change in gaming. The panel featured the likes of Hideo Kojima (Producer of the Metal Gear Solid Series), Keiji Inafune(Head Developer at Capcom) and Toshihiro Nagoshi (Producer of Yakuza and notably dressing like the lead in No More Heroes). Unfortunately none of these developers have any projects in the works yet as this was more of a brainstorming conference but the ideas were quickly flying.
Kojima said that he's excited about Natal because it has the possibility to change peoples' lifestyles -- he's most excited about seeing how it changes the lifestyle habits of gamers. He also talked a lot about the facial recognition software that would allow the games to monitor or sense the health level of the gamer (i.e. - are you sick? joyous? etc) and possibly adjust gameplay elements accordingly!
All three seemed to agree when Inafune stated that he doesn't think Natal is a fad or a transitional controller but a new wave of bringing life into the games. That Natal could really help deliver that experience to encompass a person fully and immerse them in the game. Nagoshi also mentioned that this might bring a new appreciation to games and of course open up the possibilities for new gamers both casual and hardcore to play simultaneously in enjoyment.
Essentially the trio continued on for a good solid hour about how much they loved Natal, the things that could come from it, and how it would effect gaming in the long run. We'll keep it coming with the TGS 2009 news as the event progresses throughout the week.
