Yes, you definitely read that correctly. We have for you a first look at whats going to be inside of the new SKU for Microsfts XBOX 360 console. TechnoGeeks get ready to change your EFFIN pants because we've got the rundown for you after the break.
The GPU - Your 360 right now uses a Shader Model 3 GPU with on board 10MB eDRAM for 720p. The new 360 has a BA (short for BAD ASS) Shader Model 5 GPU with 32MB of eDRAM for full 1080p output (BITCH). AMD will once again be the chip designer and it will run at 600MHz
The CPU - IBM will continue being the developer of the 360 CPU but will have 6 cores (HOLY SHIT THATS LIKE A FUCKTON) instead of the 3 found in the current model. On top of that each of these single cores is to have the same processing throughput as the cores from the XCPU. This means the chip is 200% as strong and will be running at an even pace with the PS3 Cell CPUT in GFLOPS! (We don't have a friggin' CLUE what that means but it sounds BALLER!)
Memory - Looks like they not ONLY doubled the ram from 512MB to 1024MB but they made the leap from GDDR3 to GDDR5! (Microsoft = SRS BSNS)
Hard Drive - Oh yeah, one more thing....did we mention that its going to integrate a 2.5" 32GB SSD (Solid State Drive) instead of that bulky crazy HDD as the originals? Unfortunately that raises the question of whether you'll be able to detatch the SSD and transport it to other locations as you could the HDD before it. Will the HDD still be supported? We shall see.
MISC - The new 360 will still use a standard DVD drive (sorry, no Blu-Ray YET) to ensure backwards compatibility and also reducing costs. The system will also have built in wifi for internet connectivity and there is no word on whether it WILL or WILL NOT still have a regular LAN connection for those of us who do not like WiFi play.
So the big question boils down to "When can I has moar 360 plz?" Well that's easy. Microsoft is planning on a Q4 release in 2010. The target price is set for around $300 USD so start saving those pennies if you want to upgrade but the House of M has already stated that you will not have to upgrade for future projects/games.
