Now, as some of you who have tuned in might know I am a huge Persona fan. When this game FINALLY came out on the UK side I was among many who got it straight away. Why? Well, read below and find out.
We instantly start the game with a rather unique movie intro. I’ve got to admit it was head turning in the ‘dafuq’ kind of way, good, and showing its own style. The movie reminded me of something that you would expect from a TV series back in the 70s, but of course it is Anime’d, which is never a bad thing in my opinion.
Once you choose all your settings and whatnot you are instantly greeted by the very iconic Velvet Room music from Persona 4, and damn does it get you in the mood! The only thing I have a slight issue with, just as a nit pick because I love this game so much, is that when we are greeted with Igor, his American/English voice is just a little bit too high pitched compared to the original Anime, but as I said, a minor if not pointless moan.
The first two hours of game play flew by. The voice acting in the game is incredible and I’ve chuckled several times despite already seeing the Anime, which follows very closely to the game. That being said, it is not a bad thing as there are points that differ to the game. I’ve only just recently unlocked both the Hero and the first companion's persona, so there is plenty of stuff to come in the game. I’m rather excited to continue, and am excited about the general game play itself.
Graphically this game is still in touch with its original roots, focusing more of extended story-telling and RPG elements than its heavy graphic content. The added parts of the anime coming onto your screen is rather nice. As for now, I’m leaving it there and saying to any Vita owners, if you like Story telling games with a bit of a dark element to it, this game is for you!
Once I hit the 24 hour mark in Persona, I could easily see this beautiful game holding true to the predictions of 100 hours of game play. There is still plenty more to come and I’m loving it. The characters are evolving before my eyes and as you spend more time with them, you develop what is known as Social Links.
The Social Link concept is to help you not only improve your Personas, but also to give you a little bit extra outside of fighting. Truth be told, I think the game is about 30% fighting and 70% RPG elements. The Social Links are incredibly useful for when you fuse Personas together to make stronger ones. Why would you do that? For a little something called Bonus EXP. It is very helpful! Plus, if you spend more time developing the Social Links with those you take into the TV, you will gain access to special abilities and moves that only they can learn. They REALLY come in handy in a tight squeeze.
The main thing that is really enjoyable is that though is that you as the main character are just an everyday kid. You have to ‘hide’ and deal with the problems of the TV world whilst going to school, doing a part time job, studying, or learning to ride a motorcycle. It's proving ever more enjoyable because you feel like you are part of the game and living the life. This is Persona at its finest, and I seriously recommend this game.
