Rumour Round-up: 13TH February

title

Today is Wednesday, and that can only mean one thing, it’s time for your weekly round-up of the latest gossip from across the internet. This week has seen a multitude of whispers about possible upcoming games, including the next entry into the Fallout series, highly anticipated giant monster simulator ‘The Last Guardian’ & Bungie’s new IP ‘Destiny’ getting its own teaser campaign in preparation for its official announcement. More on these stories after the break...

With the New Year now in full swing, game developers have finally begun to emerge from their winter hibernation, and started sharing some information on what you might be playing before the end of the year.

The first contender into the gossip arena has been sitting on the sidelines ever since it was first announced at E3 in 2009, and understandably many people had given up all hope of ever climbing upon its massive furry back. I am, of course, talking about Team Ico’s elusive title ‘The Last Guardian’ which seems to have been under development for what feels like an age now. Recent stirrings amongst fans have been caused by the games creative director Fumito Ueda telling fans to “Keep an eye out” for what is soon to be an official announcement on the games state of development. With the news of a new range of consoles floating around the internet, some have even speculated that Sony have withheld the title from release, so it can become a launch title for the PS4.

Next up is Obsidian studios, with CEO Feargus Urquhart speaking with news site Rock Paper Shotgun about the possibility of a new entry into the Fallout franchise. During the interview, Urquhart mentions that if there is going to be another entry, it would remain on the west coast with places like Los Angeles being raised as possible settings. However, there may be a few obstacles in the way before this game can see the light of day, with nothing set in stone between Obsidian and Bethesda to produce a sequel, and with Obsidian already focused on concepts of a star wars RPG there’s no way to be certain if you’ll be hitting the dusty wasteland roads again anytime soon.

destiny

Onto something a bit more solid now with Bungie launching a teaser campaign for Destiny, an upcoming joint-development with Activision. The studio recently announced it would be fully revealing the title on the 17TH of February, but they have also launched a cryptic website with what appears to be different logical puzzles for fans to complete, with days marked along the top of the page possibly to coincide with reveal date. Little is known about the game, other than minor vague details that have been revealed in the past, one of which quotes the game “will be a lot like halo” and mentions to coop play and an alien menace to contend with.

And that about wraps it up for this week’s edition of Rumour Round-up. Do you want to see more wasteland fun with a new Fallout? Are you looking forward to climbing the colossal beasts in The Last Guardian? Is Bungie’s new venture going to be overshadowed by its Halo ancestors? Let us know in the comments below!
