SWTOR-Chris Collins Chat and Warzone/Bounty Hunter Videos

At Gamefest this week not only did I get to play a lot of fun games and see some amazingly tantalising videos but I also got the opportunity to have a quick chat with Chris Collins from Bioware. For those of you who don't know Bioware are making the much anticipated Star Wars The Old Republic MMO.

The meat of the interview centered around the new bounty hunter class in Star Wars The Old Republic, but I did get to find out a little about other areas of the game.

First, there were playable Flashpoints, I didn't get a chance to play them but have to say they are looking rather polished now with optimised graphics. Flashpoints are the SWTOR equivalent of dungeons in WoW and after a little digging around after my interview I learned that the first ones occur at level 10 and have an elite setting. There will be at least 50 of these in the game and interestingly both dark and light sides of the Jedi coin have their own Flashpoints meaning that to see them all, you'll need to play both sides and have more than one main character.

I also got to find out a little about how choices work in the game, and it's a simple affair really. Much like the KOTOR games, decisions you make in game will alter the story for your character and determine your standing with the light and dark sides. According to Chris Collins it seems there was quite a lot of interest in playing the game as a “grey” or middle of the road Jedi and taking a neutral path. So this has been implemented in the game. There will be a slider system that will help you keep track of this in a familiar and recognisable way.

There was no word on how this will affect endgame content, but it does seem quite an intriguing prospect, well for me at least.

As I said, the bounty hunter class came up in conversation and I was told that the class draws heavily from the classic characters of Jango and Boba Fett. There will be two main classes, Power Tech and Mercenary. Mercenary bounty hunters are a full DPS dual wielding pistol class more suited to ranged combat and the Pwer Tech class which is an off-tank/DPS hybrid that is suited to AoE, stun and crowd control attacks.

You can see the bounty hunter class in action for yourself below with commentary from Senior Content Producer Dallas Dickinson.

Star Wars The Old Republic has been given a “later this year” window and everybody here at Split Infinity Radio is of the opinion that it needs to be NOW!
