So I’m going to dive straight in here, the Sim City community didn't need another reason to accuse EA Games of being money grabbing vultures, but alas it seems EA has done it again. Now various paid advertisers can put their content into Sim City.
Starting off we can look at the latest free DLC 'Nissan Leaf' - Which you can download here! But let’s face it, EA became the most cursed publisher out there a few weeks ago, with the barrage of problems presented with 'Always Online' content, but as always we pretty much forgot about it all ever happening and moved on with our lives accepting a game of our choice courtesy of one of the biggest balls-ups of our digital gaming time (Mass Effect 3 is awesome by the way). Realising that the dog needs walking, kids need feeding and/or cleaning we moved on with our lives.
The kind of media that surrounded the abysmal SimCity release.
While I can only assume and guess most players won’t take notice of the DLC or even install it - It offers a genuine question; product placement in a game is not unheard of and there's certainly worse things going on in the world. However, classic titles such as Sim City don't often feel the need to use such advertising as a means to make a better return investment. A little product placement never hurt anyone, but with all the recent criticism being pointed towards EA currently, it makes you wonder if this will ruffle the feathers of a gaming community which already has it's back up against the wall in a cat like manner, ready to raise a big middle finger.
Just to finish things off nicely, here's a hilarious video made by Zero Punctuation reviewing our ever popular Sim City
