Sony at E3

Sony showed it's wares today at E3 and impressed the world in a way I just was not expecting. Read after the break for all the important details and quite possibly the biggest news since Project Natal came out and bit us yesterday.

Today was Sony day at E3 and many delights were shown for PSP and PS3.

Not only was it boasted that over the next year the Playstation brand would be getting 364 titles over it's formats in the next 12 months, the massive price cuts on PS2 were touched on, we were shown the PSP Go and also told what to expect as far as AAA titles are concerned.

So, I'll give you a quick roundup of the most exciting moments from Sony's press conference.

First up is the new PSP Go, all the rumours I reported a few days back were present and correcr, there will be no UMD slot, there will be 16GB of onboard memory and there is a slider screen. Not only is the handheld a massive 60% smaller but it's 40% lighter than the PSP3000.

As reported again, the newer version of the console will be sold alongside the PSP3000 and all new and current titles will still be available both on UMD and digital download formats.

The PSP Go is set for release in Europe and the US on 1stOctober at a price of E249 and $249 respectivley, and then followed by a Japanese launch on 1st October.

Also shown was Sony's version of the Wiimote and Natal all rolled into one. The new peripheral was just a prototype and was shown off being used as a bow and arrow, a method of throwing fireballs and also a way of creating on screen graffiti by tracking a players movements as well as quite a comedic display of sports failure.

Check out a video of it in action at E3 here.

There were also games shown, a new exclusive title by Rockstar for PS3 was announced. Jack Trenton announced that 70's spy thriller game The Agent would be out next year.

As well as that other exclusives were showcased including cutesy kart racer Modnation Racers. This game takes cues from the likes of Mario Kart with weapons, cute characters, cute cars and a fun atmosphere, but also from Little Big Planet. The game allows players to create anything and everything including vehicles, characters and tracks. Definitely one to look out for if the idea of sackboy racing is your idea of fun.

There was even more than that, we were all treated to a look at MAG (Massive Action Game) this promises to be awesome, a 256 player online military game with vehicles, strategy, FPS action and more. They certainly weren't lying when they termed it masive.

Have a look at the E3 Stage demo here.

Ubisoft were on hand too to show Assassins Creed 2. This time, instead of being set during the Crusades, the sequel is set in Italy during the 1400's. Interestingly, the main character won't be an assassin from the start and has a sidekcik of sorts in Leonardo DaVinci who provides you with his inventions to aid you in the game.

Before we get to the big hitters, one more thing that was announced was a special Hannah Montanna edition of the PSP which will be lilac in colour and will come with the game itself.

Now for the big ones, Polyphony aren't just releasing one game, oh no. They're going the whole hog and releasing two.

First will be Gran Turismo PSP, featuring 800 cars, 35 tracks with 60 different variations of them and a steady 60fps gameplay. It looks as stunning as you'd expect from Polyphony's epic racer series especially for something designed for a 3inch screen.

Also shown was Gran Turismo 5. We've all seen Prologue, and the full game is just more of the same...A lot more.

Check out the trailer for GT PSP here.

I'll save the really juicy one for last but also coming is Metal Gear Solid, The Peace Walker. A PSP exclusive set in the 70's. This features Solid Snake doing what Solid Snake does best including sporting his trademark mullet and hiding under cardboard boxes.

You can check out the trailer for MGS The Peacewalker here.

Now for the biggie, and this one is really big. So earth shatteringly huge I nearly wet myself, but a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII was shown, it's still not a PS3 exclusive and still looks great. They showed more of the characters you'll expect to see, a very pretty battle system and some animation that was unbelievably fluid. It's been announced we'll be waiting until Spring 2010 for this one. But the real pant-wetting news is to come.

Final Fantasy XIV.

Yes you read that right, XIII isn't even out until next year but XIV was announced. It looks great and has all the look you'd expect from Final Fantasy, but there was one big clincher. It's online.

Yes, you read it here first. Final Fantasy XIV is coming next year too, it is online and it is a PS3 exclusive andthe trailer can be seen here.

So here ends Sony at E3. Full of surprises and I though that after Project Natal Sony might have been tempted to take their ball and go home.
