The Cake Is Educational-Portal Free Until Tuesday!

Today is a great day for gamers everywhere...well gamers with a Steam account that is, and let's face it, who actually in this modern world is without a Steam account?

Actually, it's not just today that's so spiffy, it's today all the way through until Tuesday September 20th that's pretty awesome as Valve are giving the original Portal away for free! Check out the full SP by clcikng below.

So, what's this all about then? Well, I 'll tell you. Portal, the first person gravity/science/climbing through mystical holes 'em up has been around for quite a while now, has enjoyed untold success over quite a few formats and has just been announced as free again for a second round of Valve related generosity.

It may be part of an educational promotion called Learn with Portals, but the cool thing is that Learn With Portals is an initiative that allows childeren to learn about science and mathematics in a fun and imaginitive way and to get them to see all of the possibilities that these subjects can bring. OK, the really cool thing is a free game, but anything that promotes education has to be good, right?

It seems that video games are being used more and more in education now, and Valve have got in on the act and in my opinion Portal is probably the perfect game to marry education and entertainment because of it's knack for teaching such things as spatial reasoning, physics and problem solving.
