Verizon Offers Pseudo GameTap Service
Announced on Monday and starting some time this summer, Verizon will be offering "more than 1,400" PC games (sorry Mac folks) through its broadband service for $5 to $15 a month, depending on which price plan you sign up for. The Quick Pack gives access to arcade, puzzle and word games for $5 a month. The Family Place plan gives you more than 900 family friendly games for $8 a month, and the unlimited plan gives you the whole library for $15 a month. The service offers a wide variety of games from casual titles like Bejeweled to pewpew fun titles like Splinter Cell, where their customers can play the games over an internet connection or they can download the games directly to their computer so long as it's connected to the internet, one assumes to verify they have a license.Initially the service is only avaialable in the northeast in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York and you need to be on their fiber optic Internet service (FiOS). There are no details on when and where other areas will be able to sign up.
If you want to see a full list of titles and see more check out Verizon's site.
