Today was the day that Amazon and Microsoft launched the new (and amazingly awesome) Amazon Xbox LIVE Store Beta. You can check it out at www.amazon.com/xboxlive. The point of the new business venture from these two super coporations is to offer customers the ease of purchasing and "gifting" select Xbox LIVE games, subscription cards, and Microsoft Point cards.
Curious? More info after the break!
Article Points highlighted in bold for those whom have teh A.D.D.
Before now the only way you would be able to obtain any of the above listed items would be directly from your Xbox 360 or xbox.com. This makes Amazon.com the first (online) retailer offering customers digital access to the codes required for downloading Xbox LIVE Arcade games. You can choose from all sorts of XBLA games ranging from Braid to Castle Crashers and apparently over 100 other titles.
Greg Hart, vice president of Video Games and Software for Amazon.com was quoted as saying "PC gamers have enjoyed the convenience of digital downloads on Amazon.com for some time. Now Amazon.com and Microsoft are bringing that same level of convenience to platform gamers by expanding the reach of the Xbox LIVE digital platform to millions of Amazon customers," and that "This is an exciting day for Amazon.com customers, and we will continue to drive innovation that will provide our customers with the widest selection of video game platform downloads."
Business will follow as per usual because the Xbox LIVE store through Amazon.com you will be able to easily buy all of the things you would normally need a console for and now you can have the lovely option of gifting Microsoft Points to a friend which they can recieve the redemption code through their e-mail. Sooo...I mean...my Birthday is March 14th, mark that on your calendar or something I'm just saying.
The store will of course work on a code-redeption system as all of the other Microsoft Point and Subscription cards you buy in stores currently do now. In addition to all of this the code you recieve will stay in Your Games & Software Library so you may retrieve it at any time. This cuts down on all the waiting time and cost to manufacturer ensuring a larger profit margin for the fatcats. This also means (hopefully) that maybe Microsoft will be interested in lowering the set prices for points.
