X:COM Enemy Unknown

So! We have a brand new game to rave about, well, I do anyways! It is known as X:COM – Enemy Unknown. What is it about? Well, do you remember those old war games that were strategy based? Where you moved the troops around in an aerial style, not unlike C&C only with more focus on a small amount of troops going from cover to cover? You wouldn’t be far off from this game, however there is PLENTY more than that.

X:COM – EU is a game in a long running legacy of games, this one is taken over from the creators of Civilization and they have brought their own twist to the shin-dig which looks amazing. The game is forced mostly around what the designers called an ‘Ant Hill’. The main reason for this was that you start off with two basic things at the X:COM HQ, a battle map (the core of the base) and an underground air-ship deploy area… As you progress through the game you can build different buildings and other such things. The thing I like about this is that all of them are unlocked pretty early one but you have to go down a kind of ‘talent tree’ style to get other things.

Placing things randomly will get you no-where here as certain ‘rooms’ being connected together gain a bonus for the rooms, a very nice little touch there if you ask me. But onto the actual missions.

The designers have come up with 70 unique missions to play throughout the game, and with a brilliant AI the game would feel different each time you play it. But as you go through these levels you’ll gain resources, some of these you won’t be able to use unless you develop various rooms. With a quick jump back to ‘rooms’, there are ones that improve your troops that you’d take to battle, their training, their equipment and some pretty epic new things to use on the battlefield.

Steam currently have a fantastic little ‘Reward’ for those who pre-order that comes depending on how many people pre-order it.
