First person shooters have never been accused of being big or clever, but soon that accusation may well be an accurate one, especially as Rage, the upcoming shooter from Bethesda and the creators of Quake and Doom, id Games is just around the corner. I got to play it at Gamefest last weekend, and now a week later I can’t seem to get what could be one of the most exciting games out of my brain.  Star Wars was always culturally relevant, changed Sci Fi, people’s lives and even spawned a religion.

 I bring to you some news from the Star Wars camp, more importantly the Star Wars The Old Republic camp, an even more importantly than that, the much anticipated release date.

Blizzard announced Friday (9/23) morning on Battle.net that the long anticipated Diablo 3 will now have a release goal (notice the nice wide opening... Giggity!) of Early 2012.  The previous release goal had been Soon™.  Blizzard is well known for withholding release dates until they have a finished and highly polished product and we have come to expect that from Blizzard. 

But what can we take from the announcement?  Beta testing will last longer (those of you who got in, I have nerd envy/hate to you).  The product will be that much more polished.  Your Christmas list now has a freed up spot.

At Gamefest this week not only did I get to play a lot of fun games and see some amazingly tantalising videos but I also got the opportunity to have a quick chat with Chris Collins from Bioware. For those of you who don't know Bioware are making the much anticipated Star Wars The Old Republic MMO.
