I am a huge fan of black and white films, photos etc and when I saw this monochrome game I had to feature it on ISP. I was hooked within my first few minutes of gameplay as I was sneaking around dodging the natives. So what is this game? It's called Black The Fall and it is a side scrolling shooter that will have you crafting, puzzle solving, sneaking from the Natives and even building your own pet to help you out.
The creators have drawn their inspiration from movies like Sin City and The Matrix as well as games old and new like Another World, Flashback,Thief, Limbo and Deadlight. The Devs wanted to create a distinctive atmosphere and an unforgettable experience that captures the metaphor behind the game: living in a hi-tech world, fighting with ancestral fears and an introspection into the dark side of unconscious.
So let's dig into some of the "dos" and "don'ts" that I've found out so far:
1) Keeping your cool is at the top of the "do" list.
2) Don't plow your way thru it's definately a detriment to your health, trust me I know.
3) Do break open barrels and boxes when you can, reason being when you die and the level resets your ammo doesn't.
4) Don't count an area as clear unless you've thrown all the switches and searched all the dark, dismal corners (you could very well miss that secret).
5) Do conserve ammo when possible reason being when you die on a board you reset however ammo caches/bullets used do not.
This is a refreshing change from the usual hack and slash or horror survival games and it offers not only the chance to put your brain to use solving puzzles but you gain a sense of satisfaction for each board cleared especially when you've uncovered all the secrets. You can get it now on Steam Early Access for $8.99 and is available for Linux, Mac or PC.
